We delivered to the Williamsburg Community Foundation office our $1500 check for the LWV of Williamsburg Area Annual Scholarship for a graduating senior from one of the WJCC public high schools who meets the League’s criteria. The Foundation increased the amount from $1000 to $1500 this year and the Board voted to increase our donation.
The Foundation administers the scholarship application review process and will hold an award ceremony in the spring to announce the scholarship winners. Last year over 70 scholarships were awarded. Members will attend and present the League’s scholarship.
Because we voted to fund only one scholarship per year, our intent is to rotate the scholarship among the three schools. Since a Jamestown student received our initial scholarship last year, we hope there’s a student from Lafayette or Warhill high school who will meet the criteria.
Our criteria. This scholarship is intended for a student who plans to pursue studies in civics, government, politics, law, or a related area of study. Preference will be given to a student who participates in Student Government and/or an organization like the League of Women Voters that encourages Civic Involvement.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, advocates on issues, and promotes civic education.
