Help Staff the Polls — James City County Needs Election Officers
Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025 — about 20 more Election Officers are needed.
Election Officers (Virginia’s official term for poll workers) make voting work. You’ll greet voters, check them in, issue ballots, keep equipment running smoothly, and assist with curbside voting. It’s a one-day, nonpartisan civic service that runs from about 5:00 a.m. to ~9:00 p.m.
James City County operates 18 polling locations; as of mid-October, 12 locations still need additional Election Officers. You’ll receive mandatory training (~4 hours) with a $25 training stipend, and $125 for the full Election Day shift.
Requirements: 18+, a registered Virginia voter, and able to work the full day. State law asks applicants to note a party preference to ensure balanced staffing, but service is strictly nonpartisan.
