The Janes provides a very timely look at the 'Jane Collective' - a group of women who built a clandestine network in Chicago to help women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortions between 1968 and the landmark Supreme Court Case Roe v. Wade. These 'Janes' risked their personal and professional lives to help others at a time when abortion was a felony in Illinois.
With abortion rights and reproductive health once more at the mercy of the states, this film serves as a timely reminder of why we MUST VOTE in Virginia’s November 2023 elections for legislators who support reproductive justice and a woman’s right to choose.
Directed by Oscar-nominee Tia Lessin (HBO’s Trouble the Water) and Emmy-nominee Emma Pildes (HBO’s Jane Fonda in Five Acts), The Janes gives first-hand accounts from the women, speaking on the record for the first time. |
