LWVUS is a proud national partner for this year’s John Lewis Good Trouble Day of Action falling on July 17. Our local League is excited to co-host with Williamsburg JCC Indivisible a John Lewis Good Trouble Day of Action observance this Thursday July 17 at the James City County Courthouse on Monticello Avenue.
Across the country, there will be similar events honoring John Lewis' courageous fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.
From our LWV of Virginia President, Joan Porte:
On July 17, we’re sending a clear message:
In the United States, the power lies in the hands of the people. We demand an end to:
The administration’s extreme crackdown on our civil rights – from our right to vote to our right to protest and speak freely.
Politicians and lawmakers targeting Black and Brown Americans, immigrants, trans people, and others with hateful, dangerous policies.
The wealthy and well-connected slashing programs that working people rely on – including Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security – to line their own pockets.
Together, we March in Peace and Act in Power.
(July 7, 2025)
So, Come hear our speakers: Charles S. Gates, Community Coordination Committee Chair with YJCW NAACP, Laura Tripp, Vice President of the League of Women Voters of the Williamsburg Area; and U.S. Marine Veteran and Professor of Philosophy, Jason Moulenbelt.
Please note: a core principle of a day of action is respect, nonviolence, peace. Avoid confrontations. |
